2023 Weeds to Seeds Fundraiser

Our twenty-year VISION is to help transform the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area into a place that supports the diversity of native plants, animals, and rare ecosystems while remaining a welcoming place for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors and learn about nature.

Our goal this year is to raise $100,000 to create an inviting outdoor education and public gathering space that can be enjoyed by all visitors to the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area. The project site is located north of the I&M Canal, on the south edge of Kreuger Quarry, and just east of Parking Lot 2 and the second footbridge leading into The Forge: Lemont Quarries.

Your generous contributions will support the completion of four key projects at the site:

• The addition of a new covered pavilion that will be available for public use
• The addition of limestone stair cases enabling easy access to the quarry shelves below the site
• The clean up and restoration efforts of one of the last remaining 19th century home sites in the quarries
• The removal of invasive tree and plant species and subsequent planting of natives in the area
